Guest Policy

We welcome friends of HEofS members to come to either one event or field trip before becoming a member of HEofS. Immediate family members may come to any number of fieldtrips/events as long as they do not homeschool. If immediate family members homeschool and live in the Phoenix area, they will be bound under the same policy as a friend, attending one event or fieldtrip before becoming an active member of HEofS.

Code of Conduct

  • A parent, guardian, or designated adult must accompany their child/children at ALL HEofS activities, including park day.

  • Respect of authority, others, and property. Rude and disrespectful attitudes and/or behaviors, including bullying, will not be tolerated and are grounds for dismissal.

  • Respectful language. Members are expected to maintain speech that is respectful and honoring of one another and the Lord while participating in all HEofS activities and functions.

Parents will be held responsible for their children’s conduct and responsible for property damaged by their family. We reserve the right to discontinue membership, with no refund, if the Code of Conduct is not followed. It is not a conclusive list, and can be altered at any time at the discretion of the Board.

Conflict Resolution Steps of Action

  1. Child to Child with adult mediation—respectfully resolve conflict between children.

  2. Adult to Adult—taking children calmly and discussing conflict with all parents, guardians, or designated adults.

  3. Parent to President—Refer to President for Mediation. If the President is not at the event, refer to the board member that is present.

We care and love our children enough to protect them from physical and mental trauma, therefore if consecutive warnings are given you may be suspended from the group.

A terminated membership is the last step in conflict resolution process. All conflicts will be handled individually, and with respect to families and circumstances involved. Reasons for denial and/or termination of membership will include but are not limited to:

    1. Threatening and/or violent behavior.

    2. Sowing seeds of discourse, gossiping with deliberate intent to hurt a person’s integrity and good standing in the group, and/or passing on information with no factual truth.

    3. Failure to comply with any HEofS guidelines or by-laws.

Membership Termination by Board

  • In the event that a member shall need to be removed from the group the board of directors shall vote at a meeting to part ways with the member for the good of the group. If the vote carries, a board member will inform the member that they are no longer a member in good standing and will be removed from all membership lists and accounts.

  • A loss of membership is permanent. Once a member has been removed from the group for non-compliance, they will not be admitted back into the group. Loss of membership means removal from all of HEofS systems and functions. This includes being a guest of a good standing member to any HEofS event.

  • Members agree not to pursue litigation in the event that they lose their membership. Should any conflict or dispute arise during membership, the member will agree to settle any differences by mediation and not litigation.

A parent, guardian, or designated adult must accompany their child/children at ALL HEofS activities, including Park Day. Parents will be held responsible for enforcing the Code of Conduct.

I acknowledge I am responsible for my children at ALL TIMES and at ALL EVENTS and the Code of Conduct and the Conflict Resolution Steps of Action and will up hold both of them.

Dress Code Policy

We ask you to abide by the dress code to the best of your ability in order to support the many Christian homeschooling families that are members of HEofS that are trying to provide a Christian environment with wholesome values for their children HEofS enjoys an excellent reputation among the citizens of Surprise. While there are many reasons for this reputation, one of the ways to help maintain it is for all members to present a respectable and wholesome image to the public. It is important that the public has confidence in the members and the members have confidence/pride in themselves when attending activities. To help present this image and foster public confidence, members must dress appropriately for the activity.

Guidelines

Members will wear clean and well-maintained attire appropriate to the type of activities they are doing. It is preferred that all members wear one of the HEofS shirts or jackets when participating in Park Day, activities, fairs, and field trips. This gives us the benefit of identifying all the families and children belonging with HEofS. In compliance with this policy, the following are examples of unacceptable attire:

  • Clothing with foul language

  • Clothing with obscene images

  • Clothing revealing body parts that should remain private

Volunteering Opportunities

We require that all of our members contribute service at least once a school year for one or more activities or coordinate (fully plan) a field trip. You may also coordinate a teaching activity. The Board consists of 5 unpaid members that are homeschooling their child(ren) and coordinating everything that happens for Home Educators of Surprise. We ask that you assist us in order to help us make this group fun and engaging for everyone.

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father encourage you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. (2 Thessalonians 2:16)

Facebook Page Guidelines

The purpose of our Facebook page is for sharing information and encouragement as homeschooling parents, as well as selling/swapping materials and posting reminders regarding our activities. As stated below, it is meant to be a “positive experience” for everyone. Let’s treat everyone with respect. The posts are not meant to be a blog of opinions or a vehicle for venting. The Board will always screen the posts; with the goal that no one would be hurt by them. Posts will always be rejected if they do not follow certain guidelines.

  1. No offensive language.

  2. Do not single out a person or family in a negative way.

  3. Posts are not to hurt anyone socially or emotionally.

  4. No discussion of controversial topics. No political postings.

  5. Permission should be obtained before posting prayer requests outside the author’s family.

  6. Personal questions that do not need to go to the whole group will be cut and pasted into an email and sent to the right person.

  7. Questions that can easily be answered and do not pertain to the whole group will be answered directly via email rather than posted.

  8. The Facebook group is not to be used to make money from the members. Excessive posts of that nature will be deleted. If the post continues the member maybe banned from the group.

  9. Anything posted that can be perceived as controversial, offensive, soliciting, hurtful or in poor taste may be deleted or removed at the board’s discretion.

HEofS does not necessarily endorse or recommend any activities by any 3rd party mentioned in posts. Please research on your own before proceeding. Any questions or concerns can be emailed to Info@HomeEducatorofSurprise.com

Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible to be inspired of God, infallible and the supreme and final authority for all faith and life; and that there is one GOD, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the virgin birth and sinless life, literal death and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We believe that mankind is lost without hope and doomed to eternal destruction without salvation, and that salvation is obtained only by grace through faith in the shedding of Jesus Christ’s blood for the atonement and remission of our sins.

Statement of Family

We understand "family" to mean a male and female parent, legally married, although we recognize the exceptions of a single parent, adopted, foster, step children, and grandchildren. We believe that the family is the basic governmental, social, and spiritual unit. In it, the child learns self-government, social relationships, and defines their spiritual beliefs.

Statement of Marriage, Gender and Sexuality

We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Gen. 1:26-27) Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture. (Gen. 2:18-25.) We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other. (1 Cor. 6:18; 7:2-5; Heb. 13:4) We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.

We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God. (Matt 15:18-20; 1 Cor 6:9-10.)

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19-21; Rom. 10:9-10; 1 Cor. 6:9-11) We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity. (Mark 12:2831; Luke 6:31.) Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the bylaws of Home Educators of Surprise.

As a member of HEofS, I have read and will respect the above statements. If I do not adhere to the above statements, I will not seek to undermine the sincerely held beliefs of other members. Doing so will result in permanent loss of membership.
